This 2-Minute Monday Mindset is about unlocking your true potential with a specific mindset.
Today I want to highlight the transformative power of a Growth Mindset.
This concept is brilliantly outlined by Carol S. Dweck in her book Mindset: The Psychology of Success.
This is about the mindset that is crucial for maximizing both personal and professional development.
A Fixed Mindset confines us to the belief that our abilities and intelligence are static, already set, and can’t change.
This mindset discourages taking risks, and stifles potential.
The larger the challenge, the more a Fixed Mindset avoids it or makes sure there are back doors or excuses in the event of failure.
They believe “I failed” means “I am a failure.”
As a result, Fixed Mindsets avoid opportunities to stretch, risk and excel beyond their own perceived limitations.
And that mindset affects their spouses, friends and their children, not to mention their careers.
On the other hand, a Growth Mindset is belief in continuous improvement and innovation.
When we adopt a Growth Mindset, we push boundaries, take more risks, and strive for higher achievement and excellence.
Failure still hurts, but it’s not self defining and instead is viewed as part of the growth process.
As a result, only with a Growth Mindsets can we unlock true potential.
I spent a large part of my life as a Fixed Mindset.
I avoided things if I felt I might fail.
I always had excuses.
I always had a back door.
It took the humbling of life and those around me to change my mindset to a Growth Mindset.
Ever since, I have soared far higher, achieved far more, helped far more people, and been far happier.
The movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray as the egotistical weatherman that epitomized the Fixed Mindset and the transformation into a Growth Mindset.
He would risk, blame everyone else, and felt change was never possible.
The realization of futility had him then embracing opportunity.
In the end, he transformed to become a better weatherman, better human being and got the girl of his dreams.
We don’t have to experience Groundhog Day to change from a Fixed Mindset to a Growth Mindset.
We just have to realize we can.
So let’s all commit to fostering a Growth Mindset within ourselves, our relationships, and our businesses.
Embrace challenges, learn from setbacks and celebrate the journey of growth.
Together, we can unlock a future full of possibilities for ourselves and others.
