This 2-Minute Monday Mindset is how to handle emergencies in business and in life.
For Emergencies in Business and Life, follow the FEMA Format
When there is a disaster in this country… a hurricane, wildfires, floods- our communities and our leaders often turn to one entity: FEMA
FEMA stands for Federal Emergency Management Agency. So if they are the emergency experts, we might look at how they handle emergencies
to see if that might help us in business and in life.
FEMA’s National Preparedness Goal describes five mission areas — prevention, protection, mitigation, response, and recovery. That FEMA format makes a lot of sense! Let’s take a closer look.
First: Prevention
We should be learning from the emergency to prevent it from occurring in the future.
For business loss prevention, what improved processes could eliminate or lessen the chance of bad things happening?
Second: Protection
How can you protect yourself in advance, in case the emergency arises?
For business protection, think of the tools, like contractual protections, you can be using.
Third: Mitigation
How can you lessen the harm caused by the emergency?
For business loss mitigation, what expert or help can you get to limit the harm or turn possible loss into profit?
Fourth: Response
How can you set up efficient and effective responses to the bad things that come your way?
For responding to business emergencies, do you have methods to counter attacks and hold off threats to your profits?
Fifth: Recovery
How are you set up to recover from emergencies that arise?
For business recovery, are you tracking and measuring, analyzing, learning and acting to improve going forward?
So when you come across an emergency not just in your life but in business, follow FEMA’s format: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response and Recovery.
That’s going to help ensure you don’t just weather the difficult times but how you can excel and thrive even in the face of an emergency or tragedy.
And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM!
