“It Might Not Work” is a Terrible Excuse to Not Try

This week’s 2-Minute Monday Mindset is about unlocking true potential – yours and others.

“It might not work” is a phrase that often stands in the way of growth and innovation as individuals AND as a business.

When we allow this fear to dominate our decisions, it prevents us from unlocking our incredible potential.

Worse, when we’re training, mentoring or employing someone, now we’ve done it to them too!

Sometimes, the ideal moment for us to take on greater responsibility, or to offer someone else an opportunity, is not when fully prepared.

Rather, just before being ready is often the very best time.

Why take such a risk?

Because when we place ourselves and others in challenging situations before feeling completely ready we ignite a fire.

We are driven by a powerful urge to prove us right about ourselves.

So are others when you give them the opportunity.

This internal motivation can lead to higher commitment, greater creativity, and pushing beyond perceived limits.

You can’t help but become more invested, and what happens as a result?

Performance often exceeds expectations.

Moreover, giving someone a chance, including ourselves, before being entirely ready allows a testing of potential and adaptability sooner.

If the decision turns out to be a misjudgment, we get and can give valuable feedback more quickly.

This early insight allows more timely support or to make adjustments beneficial for both the individual and the organization.

My challenge you for this week is change:

Change “It might not work, so I will avoid the risk”, to …

“It might not work, and now’s the best time to be surprised for the better!”

You will foster an environment of learning and growth.
You will create opportunities for yourself and others to risk to the occasion and discover hidden or only blossoming capabilities.

So, be bold this week in your decisions and sieze these moments of risk for what they really are: opportunity.

Opportunity to uncover your true potential, and the true potential of those around you.

And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM!
