How the PROCESS of Understanding can Squash Conflict & Open Our Eyes

This 2-Minute Monday Mindset is about getting past conflict so we can move forward and even improve.

How the PROCESS of Understanding Can Squash Conflict & Open our Eyes

Understanding is a powerful force.

It’s so powerful that it can squash conflicts in your business and your life.

When we truly listen and grasp another person’s perspective, we bridge gaps.

It also gives us the gift of re-evaluation of our own perspective.

In other words, the process of understanding can also open our own eyes.

Understanding is the only way to solve conflicts together, versus us acting like a dictator.

As a leader, that means solving conflicts is our job. Embrace it.

Conflicts often stem from misunderstanding.

And misunderstanding often has us jumping to assumptions.

How do some define the word assume? “It makes an “ass” out of “u” and “me”

So we must identify those assumptions, especially our own, as a beginning to understand ourselves and others.

This all means that the process of understanding is more than just hearing words.

It’s about seeing past our differences and opening our eyes even when we don’t want to.

As Lord James Dewar, the famous Scottish whisky distiller and businessman said:

“Minds are like parachutes. They only function when open.”

And, we all need to keep an open mind, especially when others are involved.

Remember, understanding is not about agreeing or conceding.

It’s about valuing each other’s viewpoints, realizing we don’t know everything, and forging a path forward together.

So let’s harness the process of understanding to squash conflict and open our eyes.

And we will turn discord into transformation — of others, ourselves and our businesses.
