Lift Your Head to Gain Perspective and Opportunity

This 2-Minute Monday Mindset is about being more aware so you don’t miss out.

I’d like to share a simple but transformative experience from my morning routine.

Typically, during my 45-minute fast walk, I focus on the ground, my feet, and the path ahead. But one day, I added an exercise that required my head to lift up. When my head lifted I couldn’t help it … I had to look around. Looking around is actually part of the survival instinct. We can’t help but look for dangers. Given I don’t have to worry about Saber Tooth Tigers in modern times, that survival instinct gave me new perspective. Suddenly, I saw the tops of trees, distant hills, and the beautiful architecture of houses on the hill.

This shift in perspective opened my eyes to a world I had been missing right before me, every day. It got me thinking: in life and in business so many of us keep our noses down in our usual tasks.

We don’t look up.  And when we don’t look up, we don’t look around. We miss new perspectives, opportunities and insights all around us.

By looking up, we expand our viewpoint.  We gain perspective. And we have a far better chance of spotting opportunities we would otherwise miss.

So, I challenge each of you this week: lift your head up and look around.. Embrace new perspectives. See what you’ve been missing. Don’t just appreciate the new perspective. Look also for the opportunities and insights new perspective often brings.

Amazing how just lifting your head and looking around gives us the gift of perspective and opportunity.

And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM!
