This week’s 2-Minute Monday Mindset is about what matters most to navigate business and get results.
Today I want to highlight a crucial distinction in any professional industry, especially medicine and its medi-legal aspects:
the difference between “knowledge” and “experience”, and why it matters.
Knowledge is the information we accumulate – protocols, business strategies, the latest technologies. It’s vital for understanding the “what” of your field.
Knowledge can be acquired through courses, textbooks, webinars, conferences and peers.
Knowledge is Power.
Experience, on the other hand, is the “how”. It’s the hands-on application and learning that allows us each to navigate real-world situations, to adapt to challenges, and to make informed decisions under pressure.
The application of that knowledge through experience is your Super Power. So, the real learning occurs in real life.
So, while I authored a really in-depth book to help medical providers in personal injury, I also conduct workshops focused on real-life situations.
And then I have an even broader coaching program I run, which has the mantra of learn, apply and improve.
It’s not just because of the fast-paced medical landscape. It’s also because of all the attacks that come your way – in my field of medical bills in personal injury, that’s attacks by government, insurers and personal injury attorneys. The experience is what allows you each to be properly prepared, to pivot quickly, to anticipate problems, and to response effectively, so you are properly paid for what you’ve earned and deserve.
So, while I love books, I want you to also go beyond books. Go past mere knowledge and embrace and elevate the power of experience.
As real learning occurs in real life.
And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM!
