This week’s 2-Minute Monday Mindset is how to truly connect with others.
The Power of Listening – Why it’s Hard and Why it Matters
Who hear believes they are a great listener, raise your hand! … I call bull! Few really, truly listen and hear what others have to say.
Why is listening and hearing others so damn hard?
Often, it’s because we’ve heard the same thing before so we don’t pay attention. Or maybe, when someone is speaking, we’re too focused on defending ourselves or how to respond to something they just said.
Here’s the truth: people want to feel heard and understood. And that includes you!
When we listen, we’re not just hearing words; we’re connecting with the person, acknowledging their feelings, and showing empathy.
But in a world full of distractions, just listening can be super challenging. We might already have our responses ready or feel like we’re being attached, making
it even harder to fully engage in hearing the other person—not just what they are saying but also comprehending “why” they’re saying it.
Yet, when we truly listen—without interrupting, defending or judging—we create space to truly hear someone else. And to not just hear, but also to understanding, to build trust, and to better communicate.
Listening is one of the simplest, yet most powerful ways to show respect and care for others. It’s not just about hearing the words someone says; it’s about making people feel seen and valued.
So, remember: we all want to feel heard. Start with listening—because when we listen, we build stronger, more meaningful connections.
And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM!
