Fall in Like Not Love

Sharing is Caring 📤

This 2-Minute Monday Mindset is about our tendency to lose our perspective in business.

Fall in Like Not Love

In business—especially in personal injury—we’re taught to build strong relationships with attorneys, peers, organizations, industry leaders, and vendors. And that’s great!

But here’s the trap: we start treating business like romance.

We fall in love with the idea of mutually beneficial, long-term partnerships. We expect loyalty, long-term harmony and constant benefit. But business isn’t marriage.

Business is a series of shorter-term alignments based on mutual value—and when that value changes, so should the relationship.

So in business, fall in like not love.

“Like” keeps your expectations clear.

“Like” keeps you objective.

“Like” allows you to re-evaluate as your needs or their performance shift.

And hey, romantic love doesn’t have the best track record. Half of marriages end in divorce! If half of marriages split you can bet the vast majority of business relationships will at some point.

“Falling in like” means viewing the relationship for what it really is: a temporary alliance.

It means respecting the relationship without idolizing it.

It means honoring what’s working without ignoring what’s not.

Stop chasing “forever.” Fall in like. Stay in control. And be willing to act as needs or performance change.

Because in business, falling in like not love protects your present and your future.

And I’ll see YOU and the next 2MMM!
