To honor those who earned the right:
Beyond Remembering… Understand the Sacrifice
Memorial Day is not just a holiday—it’s a responsibility. A moment to pause, not only to remember but to understand.
Because behind every flag-draped coffin, behind every missing seat at the dinner table, there’s a sacrifice that echoes far beyond the battlefield. We honor the fallen—the heroes who never came home–their dreams, their futures—given so that we could have ours, and the freedom to enjoy it. We cannot, and must not, let their sacrifice be in vain. So we remember and honor them on this day.
Memorial Day is for them.
But what about those who served and survived? Many came home with visible wounds—scars, missing limbs. But others carry the invisible burden of war, battling PTSD, depression, and struggles few can understand.
Memorial Day is for them too.
And let’s not forget those still serving—right now, in war zones, on the land, sea and air, in training—all knowing full well the risks but stepping forward anyway. Their courage keeps us free.
Memorial Day is for them too.
Then there are the forgotten casualties—the parents, spouses, children and loved ones who bear the weight of loss long after the ceremonies end. They too sacrifice, enduring grief that never fades.
Memorial Day is for them too.
So today, let’s do more than remember and honor, let’s also understand. Realize that the best way to show gratitude is not just in words, but in how we uphold the freedoms they fought and fight to protect, and how we take care of those who served and serve.
May we be worthy.
And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM
