Episode 12 Fear of Mistakes Stopping You? Just Tango On!

From the movie, Scent of a Woman,

Al Pacino is a cantankerous, blind, and retired army colonel.

He’s depressed and miserable

His two favorite loves in life now: Jack Daniel’s and women As to women, he could describe the physical aspects of a women merely by hearing her voice.

He also had this strange ability to guess the exact perfume any woman was wearing.

Thus why it’s called Scent of a Woman.

He’s finagled Charlie, a prep high school teenager, to take him to New York.

On a final evening there they are out to dinner, and there is this beautiful 22 year old woman, alone.

She was waiting for a man who clearly doesn’t appreciate her.

The colonel asks her, “Do you tango?” and she says she always wanted to.

He replies, “Would you like to tango, Darling, right now?

(Remember he’s blind)

She says she would be afraid of making a mistake.

So … because of her fear she was going to say no to an opportunity to do what she always wanted.

How sad!

I’ll never forget his reply.

The blind colonel replies …

“There are no mistakes in the tango … it’s not like life.

The tango is simple. That’s what makes the tango so great.

If you make a mistake and you get tangled up, you just tango on.

Why don’t you try it? Join me?”

She did, and she escorted this blind, retired, old colonel and performed one amazing tango.

As he led her, she followed, and it was beautiful … the music and them.

They made mistakes but just tangoed on like he said.

And at the end, what happened?

The room bursts into massive applause.

She had a special moment in her life because instead of worrying about making a mistake, she tangoed on.

My challenge to you this week:

When you find the fear of a mistake stopping you from something you really want  … remember to Just Tango On!

And I’ll see you at the next 2MMM
