Problem, Solution, or Landscape

Sharing is Caring 📤

This 4th of July week 2-Minute Monday Mindset is to help you view the role of yourself and others in the success of the business and the analogy to the founding of our great country.

Problem, Solution, Or Landscape

There’s a line in the 1998 movie Ronin with Robert DeNiro that hit me hard the first time I heard it. Duvall turns to another and says: “Either you’re part of the problem … part of the solution .. or part of the landscape.”

That’s not just a movie line. That’s a mirror.

Given this is 4th of July week, I think that was the same thing going on at the time of the American Resolution as people and neighbors were deciding what side to be on, whether to get involved, or to watch.  Thank goodness for those who stood up and acted for a new country!

In your practice and in your day-to-day role, which one are you?

Are you part of the problem?

Dragging down the culture, resisting change, not grabbing onto opportunities, slowing things down?

Are you part of the solution?

Actively improving processes, increasing profits, helping the team thrive, getting the right coaches to elevate?

Or are you just part of the landscape?

Filling space, watching things happen, but not really “in” the business game?

It’s a powerful lens.  I used it on myself and it helped me reshape.  It was so powerful for me about me, I then applied it to how I evaluated people around me.  You can do the same.

Use it to evaluate staff, vendors, peers, advisors, organizations, attorneys, and coaches. Everyone is playing one of those three roles: problem, solution, landscape.

And awareness is everything. Because once you know, you can decide where you go next. With yourself and with others.

Don’t settle for background scenery or tolerate problems.

Be a solution. Every day.  And look for relationships that do the same.

And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM!

On the right, three men labeled "TORT REFORM" pull against them, while a group of three medical professionals (two doctors and one nurse) labeled "MEDICAL PROVIDERS" stand watching on the Tort Reform side.

How Medical Providers Are Being Misled About Tort Reform

The plaintiff’s bar is shouting that tort reform is destroying Personal Injury (PI), but medical providers are being misled. This movement, accelerating across the nation, is primarily threatening attorney margins (like the proposed 25% fee cap in California), not provider payments. The truth is, tort reform forces better documentation and ethical practice, actually elevating the value of skilled providers and potentially leading to fairer, faster settlements. Don’t panic—this is an opportunity to clean up the industry.
