This 2-Minute Monday Mindset is about overcoming the fears that hold us back.

Putting Fear Aside for Just 20 Seconds Can Change Your Life

Most of the time, courage feels impossible. We think we have to be fearless to move forward.

But what if I told you that you could get all of this, and all you need is just 20 seconds?

I first learned this life-altering concept from the 2011 film We Bought a Zoo. Matt Damon’s character says:

“You know, sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Literally just 20 seconds of embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”

He was telling his own kids the story of how he met his wife, who was just sitting in a diner eating alone. He put fear aside for 20 seconds and got the love of his life.

He later put fear aside for 20 seconds when he said yes to buying a zoo for a risky change.

The idea of putting my own fear aside for just 20 potentially embarrassing seconds has been life-changing for me. For over a decade I’ve used it in business and life.

Because fear never really disappears. Not forever—just for a moment. And it’s in that moment – those 20 seconds – where you allow the possibility for magic to happen.

So when there’s something you really want badly—A conversation to start, a chance to take, a truth to say–don’t wait for the fear to fade. Just give yourself 20 seconds. 20 seconds to pick up your phone to call, or to click send, or to say yes, or to say no.

After that? You can go right back to being afraid.

But something tells me if you apply this concept, you won’t need to return to your fear.

Amazing how just 20 seconds can be so freeing, and so impactful. It has for me, and I know it can for you.

And I’ll see YOU at the next 2MMM
